Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South in the National Assembly, has announced his defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Kawu announced this on his social media handle, stating:

“Yes, it is true, the rumor about my defection being spread is indeed true.”

He explained that his defection was driven by total loyalty and love for the people he represents. According to him:

“All politics is local, and what I focus on the most is the well-being of my constituency.”

The senator further stated that he will continue to ensure the needs of his people are met and their interests protected at all levels of politics and governance.

His defection comes after NNPP announced his suspension along with three other lawmakers from Kano, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Ali Madakin Gini, and Sani Abdullahi Rogo, over allegations of anti-party activities.

However, Kawu Sumaila and the others dismissed the suspension, saying it did not come from the legitimate faction of the NNPP.

Sumaila was once a member of the APC before he defected to the NNPP in 2022.

Now he has rejoined the APC, a move that is attracting the attention of key stakeholders in Kano politics, especially as preparations for the 2027 elections begin.
